Dear subscribers,

I’ve often read about web sites being hacked.  I believe it’s even happened to huge companies like Google and Apple.  But, I guess I always thought it wouldn’t happen to me – after all, why would anyone want to bother with a small business like mine.  And, – what can I possibly have to offer a hacker that’s worth his time?

It’s a bit like the answer to that question asked of climbers: “why do you climb mountains?” – simply, because they’re there!

Well, in recent weeks someone decided it would be fun to hack our web site.  We discovered that the logos had gone ‘funny’, and all the drop-down menus had disappeared.  We can’t see what else has been affected at this stage, but it seems to me that one of the goals of a hacker is to get his digital hands on our subscribers list.  The web site developer has stated, “it is quite possible that the hackers may have accessed the database, although there are no visible signs that it has happened.”

However, just in case it has happened and your email address has now fallen into the hands of some sly purveyor of dodgy goods and annoying spam, please accept my apologies.  We have taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again, but we’ll have to keep on our toes.

Kind regards,
